Parc Astérix has revealed new details about a major expansion of its Greek-themed area opening in spring 2027, including two new family attractions, a themed play area and a large new restaurant.
The French theme park is also completing a full retrack of Tonnerre 2 Zeus ahead of the 2027 season, giving one of its best-known rollercoasters another significant overhaul.
The Greek expansion forms part of Parc Astérix's wider €250 million development programme running through to 2030.
Two new family rides are coming to the Greek area
The first new attraction is Tournikotis Tournikotas, a pair of family drop towers designed to deliver a lighter thrill experience suitable for a broad range of visitors.
Guests will be carried into the air through a series of repeated ascents and descents rather than experiencing the larger drops associated with traditional thrill-focused drop towers.
Parc Astérix says the attraction has been designed for families to experience together.
The second addition is La Flotte de Poséidon.
The attraction features eight themed boats rotating around a central column, with the ride vehicles rising as they circle the structure.
Together, the two new rides are expected to provide a combined capacity of around 800 guests per hour.
That additional capacity should help spread visitors more evenly through the Greek section while also giving families more attractions between the area's larger rides.
A new themed play area for younger visitors
The expansion will also include L'Aire de Jeu d'Ulysse, a new themed children's play area.
Parc Astérix says the new space has been designed to ensure younger visitors have their own attraction within the redeveloped area.
Concept artwork shows an adventure-style play structure incorporating boats, timber walkways and maritime details inspired by the journeys of Ulysses.
The result should make the Greek area more of a destination in its own right rather than simply a collection of individual attractions.
La Table de Dionysos becomes the centre of the expansion
The biggest non-ride addition will be La Table de Dionysos, a new table-service restaurant positioned at the heart of the expanded area.
The restaurant will have capacity for 460 guests, including 350 seats inside and another 110 on an outdoor terrace.
Concept images show a heavily themed Mediterranean interior using boats, ropes and maritime details alongside Greek-inspired architecture.
Two additional food kiosks are also planned.
Chez Nikos Bouldeglas will serve artisanal ice cream, while Elis will offer frozen slush drinks.
The existing Taverne de Dionysos will also receive a new identity, becoming La Taverne de Poséidon as part of the wider redevelopment.
Tonnerre 2 Zeus will be completely retracked
The 2027 season will also bring another major change to Tonnerre 2 Zeus.
Parc Astérix has confirmed that the wooden rollercoaster will receive a complete retrack, continuing work that has already been carried out across around half of the route.
The park says approximately 50% of the coaster has already been retracked, with the remainder due to be completed in time for the start of the 2027 season.
The work is intended to provide a smoother experience while retaining the intensity that has made Tonnerre 2 Zeus one of Parc Astérix's most recognisable thrill rides.
It follows previous modifications to the coaster and represents another substantial investment in extending the life of the attraction.
The expansion opens in spring 2027
Parc Astérix says the expanded Greek area will open in spring 2027.
An exact opening date for the two new attractions and surrounding area has not yet been announced.
The development is being positioned as more than simply two additional rides, with the park aiming to create a more immersive space combining attractions, food, play areas and themed environments inspired by Greek mythology.
Part of a €250 million transformation
The Greek expansion forms part of Parc Astérix's much larger investment programme through to 2030.
The park is investing €250 million across attractions, accommodation and infrastructure, with the aim of increasing overall capacity by around 20%.
A significant proportion of that additional capacity will be indoors, reducing the park's reliance on favourable weather conditions.
Other major projects include L'Odyssée, a new 300-room hotel opening in March 2027, and the planned Londinium area in 2028.
Londinium will be inspired by Astérix in Britain and is planned as a major indoor development featuring an immersive rollercoaster, an interactive family dark ride, play areas, dining and retail.
A significant year ahead for Parc Astérix
With two new rides, a major restaurant, a new play area, a completely retracked Tonnerre 2 Zeus and a new hotel all planned for 2027, next season is shaping up to be another significant year for Parc Astérix.
The Greek expansion may be focused primarily on family attractions, but it forms part of a much broader strategy that is steadily reshaping the French resort.
More details, including an exact spring opening date, are expected as construction continues towards the 2027 season.
