The final week of October delivered a varied mix of confirmed openings, major investment plans and construction progress from across the attractions industry.
In the UK, newly published attendance estimates brought encouraging news for Alton Towers, although the wider picture was less consistent. Europe also produced one of the week's most ambitious updates as the proposed Dracula Land resort near Bucharest completed its first-phase masterplan.
Further afield, Disney set dates for two significant additions in Asia, while Six Flags finally revealed the new home of one of the world's most talked-about relocated roller coasters.
Water parks were not left out either, with a substantial duelling water coaster announced for Brazil.
Alton Towers grows as global water park attendance rises
The 2025 TEA Global Experience Index arrived this week, offering the industry's latest set of estimated attendance figures. Visits to the world's 25 leading theme parks were broadly flat at 245.4 million, a decline of 0.2 per cent compared with the same parks in 2024.
The UK delivered a notable bright spot. Alton Towers was estimated to have welcomed 2.825 million visits during 2025, up 13 per cent from 2.5 million. LEGOLAND Windsor moved in the opposite direction, falling by an estimated 7 per cent to 2.098 million visits.
Europe's four representatives in the global top 25 collectively added more than 1.1 million visits, while the world's top 20 water parks grew by 3 per cent to 36.3 million. Spain's Siam Park was among the strongest performers, rising by an estimated 26 per cent. As always, these figures should be treated as industry estimates rather than official operator turnstile counts.
Dracula Land completes first-phase masterplan
Romania's proposed Dracula Land destination has completed the masterplan for its first major phase, moving the ambitious project into preparation for construction. The privately promoted development is planned for a 164-hectare site near Bucharest, with access from the A3 motorway.
At the centre of the destination would be a theme park featuring six immersive zones and dozens of attractions inspired by the Dracula legend and Romanian culture. The wider plans also include an aqua park, hotels, an arena, retail, restaurants and other entertainment facilities.
The developer says the first major phase could require more than €1 billion, with discussions involving potential investors and operators described as advanced. However, named financial partners, attraction operators and a firm opening date have not been announced. The project's own roadmap currently points towards phased construction beginning from 2027, making this an important step forward rather than a guarantee that the entire vision will be delivered.
Tokyo Disneyland dates its Wreck-It Ralph attraction
Tokyo Disneyland's first attraction based on Wreck-It Ralph will officially open on 15 April 2027. Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue is replacing Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters as part of the continuing redevelopment of Tomorrowland.
The interactive attraction will send guests into the Sugar Rush game world, where King Candy has transformed its sweets into destructive Sugar Bugs. Riders will use scanners fitted to their vehicles to restore the characters, earning points based on their performance before receiving a final score.
Results will appear on screens inside the vehicle and will remain temporarily available through the Tokyo Disney Resort app. A new shop named Pixel Prism will open alongside the attraction, while themed decorations, a smartphone game and castle projections will begin appearing during the build-up to opening day.
ArieForce One finds a new home at Six Flags Magic Mountain
Six Flags has confirmed that ArieForce One will be rebuilt at Six Flags Magic Mountain, ending speculation surrounding the future of the acclaimed Rocky Mountain Construction coaster. The ride previously operated at Fun Spot America Atlanta before that park closed during 2026.
Initial track and support components have already started arriving in California, although Magic Mountain has not confirmed where the coaster will sit. Its trains are expected to undergo refurbishment at Rocky Mountain Construction's facility in Idaho before the ride returns, currently planned for 2028.
ArieForce One stands 154 feet tall, reaches 64 mph and includes four inversions across approximately 3,400 feet of track. Its relocation forms part of a wider multi-year overhaul at Magic Mountain, following the closure of X2 and ahead of the new Thrill Glider coaster in 2027. Six Flags says a fuller vision for the park will be presented in early 2027.
Brazilian water park orders duelling water coaster
Hot Beach Olímpia is preparing its largest expansion to date, with a new ProSlide Dueling RocketBLAST water coaster scheduled to open in 2027. The resort says the attraction will be the first duelling water coaster in Brazil.
Two parallel courses will allow rafts to race through powered uphill sections and a mixture of enclosed and open slide elements. Each route will include ProSlide's FlyingSAUCER 20 and helix-shaped HIVE 20 features, giving riders repeated opportunities to see the competing raft.
The project is a significant addition for Olímpia, one of Brazil's leading water park destinations, and continues the growing trend towards large, visually prominent water coasters that function as headline attractions rather than supporting slides.
Shanghai Disney confirms December hotel opening
Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel will welcome its first guests on 16 December 2026, giving Shanghai Disney Resort a third themed hotel. Reservations for selected room categories will open on 6 November.
The nine-storey property contains 400 rooms and overlooks Wishing Star Lake, Shanghai Disneyland and Wishing Star Park. Its Art Nouveau-inspired design draws from early 20th-century Shanghai while incorporating Disney characters, storytelling and artwork throughout the rooms and public spaces.
A connector will link the hotel with Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, allowing guests at both properties to share selected leisure, dining and recreation facilities. Enchanted Star will also introduce the resort's first seasonal outdoor hotel pool, alongside indoor swimming facilities and themed play areas.
What we're watching next
Shanghai Disney's hotel reservations open on 6 November, while attention at Six Flags now turns to the precise location chosen for ArieForce One and the wider Magic Mountain transformation promised for early 2027.
Dracula Land will also need to convert its completed masterplan and ongoing negotiations into named partnerships, funding commitments and a clear construction timetable. Meanwhile, the attractions industry is preparing for IAAPA Expo in Orlando later this month, traditionally one of the busiest periods of the year for new ride and technology announcements.
