Another piece of Universal Studios Florida history is disappearing, with Universal Orlando confirming that Animal Actors On Location! will permanently close after more than 36 years.

The long-running live show will perform for the final time on 2 November 2026, before becoming unavailable from 3 November.

Universal has already confirmed that the closure will make way for a new experience, although exactly what will replace Animal Actors remains a mystery.

Animal Actors On Location! closing in November

Universal Orlando confirmed the closure on 2 September, describing the show as a beloved part of Universal Studios Florida since the park first opened.

In a statement, Universal said Animal Actors On Location! would take its final bow on 2 November while "making way for a future experience". Further details about what is planned for the space will be revealed at a later date.

The attraction features trained animals performing a series of tricks, demonstrations and comedy routines alongside their handlers, with dogs, cats, birds and other animals appearing throughout the show.

It has become an increasingly rare example of the type of attraction Universal Studios Florida was originally built around - experiences designed to give guests a glimpse behind the scenes of filmmaking and entertainment.

More than 36 years of Universal history

The attraction's history stretches all the way back to 7 June 1990, when Universal Studios Florida first opened its gates.

Originally known as Animal Actors Stage, the show was part of the park's opening-day attraction lineup.

It later became Animal Planet Live in 2001 before eventually taking on the Animal Actors On Location! name in 2006.

Although the format has evolved considerably over the decades, the theatre has remained dedicated to live animal performances throughout much of Universal Studios Florida's history.

Its closure leaves very few attractions remaining from the park's original 1990 lineup. E.T. Adventure continues to operate, while Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show also traces its history back to opening day.

What will replace Animal Actors?

For now, Universal isn't saying.

The wording used in the closure announcement is particularly interesting, however, because Universal has specifically confirmed that Animal Actors is making way for a "future experience".

That suggests the theatre is not simply being retired without a replacement, although there is currently no official indication of whether Universal intends to reuse the existing venue or redevelop the area more extensively.

Animal Actors sits beside DreamWorks Land and close to the Springfield area of Universal Studios Florida, placing it within a part of the park that has attracted plenty of attention as Universal continues updating its older attractions.

There will inevitably be speculation about what could be coming next, but no franchise, attraction type or opening date has been confirmed.

The end of an era for Universal Studios Florida

The closure is another example of just how much Universal Studios Florida has changed since opening in 1990.

The original park leaned heavily into the idea of taking guests behind the scenes of film and television production. Over time, that approach has increasingly been replaced by immersive lands and attractions designed to place visitors directly inside popular films and franchises.

Animal Actors On Location! remained one of the more obvious survivors of that original concept.

Its departure therefore feels particularly significant, even if the show itself no longer sits among Universal Orlando's headline attractions.

It also comes during another period of change for Universal Studios Florida, as Universal continues investing across its established parks following the opening of Epic Universe in 2025.

Animal Actors has already disappeared from other Universal parks

Universal Studios Florida is also the final Universal park still operating a version of the Animal Actors show.

Universal Studios Japan closed its version in 2011, while Animal Actors Stage at Universal Studios Hollywood closed permanently in 2023.

The Hollywood attraction was demolished as part of the development of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, Universal Studios Hollywood's major new outdoor rollercoaster.

There is currently nothing to suggest Orlando's replacement will follow the same path, but the previous closures demonstrate Universal's willingness to redevelop these long-standing theatre spaces as its parks evolve.

Last chance to see Animal Actors On Location!

Guests hoping to see the show one final time still have around two months to do so.

Animal Actors On Location! will continue operating at Universal Studios Florida through Monday, 2 November 2026, with the attraction permanently unavailable from the following day.

Attention will now turn to what Universal has planned for the site and just how significant that mysterious "future experience" could be.
