The Muppets are officially ready to rock at Walt Disney World, with Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on 26 May 2026.

Disney has now shared a much closer look at the reimagined attraction, and it sounds like The Electric Mayhem are not just being added to the existing coaster. Instead, the whole experience is being reshaped around a chaotic concert-night storyline, complete with a refreshed courtyard, a new pre-show, celebrity cameos, a new soundtrack, themed merchandise and a food location inspired by the Swedish Chef.

The Electric Mayhem are bringing a new dose of rock-and-roll chaos to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Electric Mayhem are taking over

The new version of the ride puts Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot and Lips at the centre of the story, with The Electric Mayhem preparing for a huge one-night-only concert in Hollywood. Of course, because this is The Muppets, the band are not exactly where they need to be.

Guests will begin their experience inside G-Force Records, the recording studio setting long associated with Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. This time, however, the studio has been taken over by The Electric Mayhem, with the band rehearsing for their big show while everyone else tries to get them moving.

That is a smart setup for this retheme. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster has always worked because it feels like a frantic dash to a concert, so swapping Aerosmith for The Electric Mayhem keeps the broad idea intact while giving Disney a much more character-led, timeless version of the experience.

A colourful new look for the courtyard

One of the biggest visual changes will be outside the attraction, where the famous guitar marquee is getting a Muppets makeover. Disney says the guitar will remain, but its look will be updated with a colourful psychedelic design inspired by The Electric Mayhem’s classic style.

The courtyard is also being refreshed to better match the new story, with posters and details celebrating the band’s fictional rock career. For guests who know the old Aerosmith version well, this should be one of the clearest signs that the attraction has properly moved into a new era rather than simply swapping out a soundtrack.

Keeping the guitar is a sensible choice. It is one of the most recognisable features on Sunset Boulevard, and removing it completely would have made the area feel strangely empty. Giving it a louder, more Muppet-like identity should help the attraction feel familiar and new at the same time.

Scooter will appear in the attraction’s new pre-show as Disney introduces his first Audio-Animatronics figure.

Scooter gets his first Audio-Animatronics figure

Perhaps the most exciting reveal for Muppets fans is the arrival of the first-ever Scooter Audio-Animatronics figure. Disney says the figure has been created using motion-capture technology, helping Imagineers bring Scooter’s movement and expressions into the new pre-show.

In the updated story, Scooter is trying to keep the night from falling apart. Joined by a team of penguin audio engineers, he has the not-so-simple job of persuading The Electric Mayhem to stop jamming in the studio and actually get to the concert.

It is exactly the kind of backstage panic that The Muppets do best. The band are ready to play, the fans are waiting, Scooter is stressed, the penguins are involved, and guests are pulled into the middle of it all. For a ride that launches guests from the studio into a high-speed trip across town, that story feels like a very natural fit.

The L.I.M.O. is getting a new meaning

The original Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster famously sent guests racing through Los Angeles in a super-stretch limo. The Muppets version keeps that idea, but gives it a very Muppet Labs-style twist.

Guests will board a super-powered vehicle known as a Lengthy Immediate Motion Object, or L.I.M.O., from the alleyway behind Studio C. It is a silly little detail, but it is the kind of wording that helps the retheme feel properly Muppets rather than just a standard coaster with familiar characters placed on top.

That balance is going to be important. The ride itself is still one of Disney World’s more intense coaster experiences, with a launched start and a dark indoor layout, so the humour needs to support the thrill rather than slow it down. From what Disney has revealed so far, the attraction seems to be leaning into that frantic, showtime energy.

Celebrity cameos will appear throughout the attraction

Disney has also confirmed that the new version will include celebrity cameos throughout the experience, starting in the queue and continuing into the merchandise shop. The announced line-up includes Awkwafina, Danny Trejo, Darren Criss, John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris, Travis Barker, Yvette Nicole Brown, Wayne Brady and “Weird Al” Yankovic.

This is a nice way of making the queue feel more layered. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster has always had a strong pre-show identity, but The Muppets naturally invite background jokes, posters, odd little references and blink-and-you-miss-it details. The cameos should give returning guests something extra to look for on repeat visits.

It also fits the wider Hollywood Studios setting. The idea that a massive celebrity crowd has turned up for an Electric Mayhem concert feels very on-brand for The Muppets, who have always worked best when they are surrounded by famous faces and complete backstage chaos.

The new set list has been revealed

Music remains at the heart of the attraction, but the Aerosmith tracks are being replaced by a new Electric Mayhem set list. Disney has confirmed five songs for the ride: Song 2, Born To Be Wild, Love Rollercoaster, Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) and Walking on Sunshine.

Some tracks will also feature special guests, with Disney listing Camilla the Chicken, Jennifer Hudson, Questlove, Def Leppard and Kelly Clarkson as part of the soundtrack line-up.

On paper, it is a fun mix. Love Rollercoaster is the most obvious fit by name alone, but the wider selection suggests Disney wants each ride experience to feel like a different concert moment rather than one repeated song. If the audio mix has the right energy, this could be the part of the retheme that really sells the whole idea.

Merchandise and Swedish Chef snacks complete the area

The retheme will also extend beyond the coaster itself. Disney has revealed a new merchandise collection for Rock Around the Shop, with attraction-inspired clothing, accessories and souvenirs linked to the new Electric Mayhem version of the ride.

Food is getting a Muppets twist too, with FØØD by Swedish Chef receiving an updated look and refreshed menu. The location sits close to the ride exit, which should help the whole area feel more complete rather than leaving the retheme contained only inside the attraction building.

That matters because the strongest Disney rethemes usually do not stop at the ride vehicle. They create a surrounding mood, with signs, shops, snacks, music and little details all working together. Based on what Disney has shown so far, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets appears to be aiming for that wider mini-area feeling.

A big change after the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D

For many fans, the arrival of The Muppets on Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster will still come with mixed feelings. The closure of Muppet*Vision 3D was a significant moment for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, especially given that attraction’s connection to Jim Henson and its long-standing place in the park.

A new coaster overlay does not replace that history, and it probably should not be treated as if it does. Muppet*Vision 3D had a very specific charm, and for a lot of Disney fans it represented The Muppets in their purest theme park form.

At the same time, giving The Muppets a major thrill attraction on Sunset Boulevard does show that Disney is not simply moving on from the characters. This is a much louder, more visible role for them, and if the humour lands properly, it could introduce The Muppets to guests who might never have gone looking for them in a theatre-based attraction.

Why this retheme makes sense

As Disney rethemes go, this one feels unusually logical. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster was already built around a band, a recording studio, a concert dash and a high-speed indoor coaster layout. The Electric Mayhem can slot into that structure without Disney needing to explain too much.

The biggest question is tone. The original Aerosmith version had a cool, late-90s rock-video feel, while The Muppets bring colour, comedy and chaos. If Disney goes too silly, the ride could lose some of its thrill appeal. But if it gets the balance right, this could become a more flexible and long-lasting version of the attraction.

There is also the benefit of character recognition. Aerosmith gave the ride a strong identity for decades, but The Muppets give Disney a property it fully controls, with a broader cast of characters and a style that can be refreshed over time.

When does Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets open?

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on 26 May 2026. The reimagined attraction will feature The Electric Mayhem, a new pre-show with Scooter, celebrity cameos, an updated soundtrack, refreshed courtyard details, new merchandise and food from FØØD by Swedish Chef.

It is a major new chapter for one of Hollywood Studios’ best-known thrill rides. For Aerosmith fans, it marks the end of a long-running era. For Muppets fans, it could be the start of something much bigger, louder and wonderfully chaotic.
