LEGOLAND Windsor looks set for another major change, with plans moving forward for a new spinning rollercoaster on the former Viking River Splash site.

The much-loved rapids ride closed in 2023, and demolition work is now expected to take place through 2026. A separate planning application is expected later this year, with the new coaster currently targeted to open in 2028.

A spinning coaster for the former Vikings area

The new attraction is expected to be a spinning rollercoaster, a ride type that would bring a more dynamic and unpredictable experience to the park while still remaining firmly family-friendly.

It is not expected to form a completely new themed area, instead likely expanding one of the park’s existing lands.

That has naturally led to speculation around LEGO NINJAGO World, which sits close to the former Viking River Splash route. A spinning coaster would fit perfectly here, especially with the NINJAGO theme built around movement, action and Spinjitzu-style energy.

A bigger future for LEGOLAND Windsor

The project forms part of a wider period of investment at the resort, following recent additions such as Minifigure Speedway and ongoing improvements across the park.

For years, LEGOLAND Windsor has been best known for its family rides and immersive worlds, but another coaster would continue pushing the park further into family thrill territory.

Goodbye Viking River Splash

For many guests, Viking River Splash will be missed. The ride opened in 2007 and became one of the park’s most recognisable water attractions.

But with the site now being redeveloped, this spinning coaster could become one of LEGOLAND Windsor’s most exciting additions in years.
