Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed that Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will officially open on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

The long-awaited coaster has already been welcoming selected guests during technical rehearsals, but the new date marks the attraction's official public debut.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift officially opens on September 16.

Hollywood Drift will become Universal Studios Hollywood's first outdoor high-speed roller coaster and the fastest coaster anywhere in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio.

The attraction reaches speeds of up to 72mph and features four launches, with individual ride vehicles capable of rotating 360 degrees to create a drifting sensation as they move around the track.

Guests will ride in cars inspired by vehicles from the Fast & Furious films, including the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra.

A major new coaster for Universal Hollywood

The coaster has been one of Universal Studios Hollywood's biggest projects in years and adds a very different type of attraction to a park traditionally dominated by dark rides, simulators and studio experiences.

Its hillside layout also takes advantage of the park's unusual geography, with sections of track offering views across the San Fernando Valley.

Universal has been running technical rehearsals since late July, allowing some guests to experience the attraction ahead of its formal opening.

The September 16 date now gives the coaster a firm place in Universal's autumn line-up, just as Halloween Horror Nights gets underway at the resort.

Hollywood first, Orlando next

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will not remain exclusive to California forever.

Universal Orlando Resort is also developing its own Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster for Universal Studios Florida, although that version is a separate project and is currently scheduled for 2027.

For now, California gets the first chance to experience Universal's new drifting coaster concept when Hollywood Drift officially opens on September 16.
