Universal Orlando has extended the planned seasonal closure of Volcano Bay, with the water park now expected to reopen on or before 1 April 2027.
Volcano Bay is currently scheduled to close for maintenance from 26 October 2026, keeping the entire water park unavailable to guests through the winter and into early spring.
The updated reopening window is later than the previously advertised 24 March date, potentially affecting guests planning Universal Orlando trips around the end of March.
When will Volcano Bay close?
Universal currently lists 26 October 2026 as the beginning of Volcano Bay's seasonal maintenance closure.
The water park will then remain closed for several months, with Universal's official website now stating that the planned reopening will take place on or before 1 April 2027.
Universal notes that the dates remain subject to change and recommends guests continue checking the resort's park hours before visiting.
The change extends the previously advertised reopening window, which had indicated Volcano Bay would return on or before 24 March.
What does this mean for Universal Orlando trips?
The extended closure is particularly important for guests visiting Orlando during the winter and early spring.
Anyone travelling between 26 October and the end of March should currently plan their trip on the assumption that Volcano Bay will not be available.
That leaves Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe operating as Universal Orlando's three main theme parks during the closure period.
Guests staying at Universal hotels that provide convenient access to Volcano Bay, including Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Universal Aventura Hotel and Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, should also factor the closure into their plans.
Why is Volcano Bay closing for so long?
Universal describes the closure as a seasonal maintenance period rather than announcing any individual major new attraction or redevelopment.
Water parks regularly require substantial maintenance because slides, pools, pumps and water treatment systems operate continuously in demanding conditions throughout the year.
A full seasonal closure gives Universal the opportunity to carry out work that would be much harder to complete while the park remains open.
Universal has not announced any major new attraction opening alongside the 2027 reopening.
Volcano Bay returns in spring 2027
Once reopened, Volcano Bay will return with its existing line-up of attractions centred around the 200-foot Krakatau volcano.
The park includes attractions such as Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Ko'okiri Body Plunge, Honu ika Moana, TeAwa The Fearless River and Waturi Beach.
The wording "on or before 1 April" means an earlier reopening remains possible, but anyone booking specifically to visit Volcano Bay should avoid relying on an earlier date unless Universal confirms one.
For UK visitors planning an Easter 2027 trip, the new date is particularly worth watching, as even a small change to the reopening schedule could affect itineraries at the beginning of April.
Universal says guests should continue checking its official operating calendar for further updates.
