This summer, Universal Studios Hollywood is preparing to launch one of its most ambitious attractions yet with Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. Inspired by the hugely successful Fast & Furious franchise, the new roller coaster promises high speeds, dramatic drifting movements and ride vehicles themed to some of the most recognisable cars in movie history.

While Universal has already confirmed that the attraction will feature rotating coaster vehicles designed to simulate drifting at high speed, fans have now been given their best look yet at the cars themselves - and it is clear the creative team has gone all-in on authenticity.

Rather than designing generic racing-inspired vehicles, Universal Creative carefully selected four hero cars directly associated with some of the franchise’s most beloved characters. From Dom Toretto’s legendary Dodge Charger to Brian O’Conner’s instantly recognisable Toyota Supra, the attraction appears designed to feel like stepping directly into the Fast & Furious universe.

The newly revealed ride vehicles are not simply visual references either. According to Universal Creative, extensive effort went into recreating the details, proportions and personality of each car while still adapting them into functioning roller coaster vehicles capable of delivering an intense thrill experience.

The Four Legendary Ride Vehicles

The development team, led by Jon Corfino, Vice President of Creative at Universal Studios Hollywood, reportedly reviewed more than 150 vehicles featured throughout the Fast & Furious franchise before narrowing the line-up down to four core cars that would represent the spirit of the series.

Each vehicle reflects a different era and style from the films, helping the coaster celebrate the history of the franchise rather than focusing on just one movie.

  • 1970 Dodge Charger - The black Dodge Charger remains one of the defining symbols of the Fast & Furious franchise and is closely associated with Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto. Universal has revealed that the attraction vehicle incorporates real automotive-inspired detailing including the instantly recognisable hood blower. The aggressive styling and muscle-car proportions are expected to make this one of the most popular ride vehicles among guests.
  • Mazda RX-7 - Han’s orange-and-black RX-7 from Tokyo Drift represents one of the franchise’s most visually distinctive cars. Featuring bold graphics, racing-inspired modifications and an unmistakable street-racing aesthetic, the vehicle helps bring a slightly different style to the coaster lineup.
  • Nissan Skyline GT-R - Brian O’Conner’s Skyline GT-R has become legendary among Fast & Furious fans over the years. The sleek silver-and-blue performance car is heavily associated with the franchise’s street racing roots and remains one of the most requested vehicles whenever fans discuss the series online.
  • Toyota Supra - Arguably one of the most famous movie cars of the early 2000s, Brian’s bright orange Toyota Supra from the original Fast & Furious film has become iconic far beyond the franchise itself. Universal says the coaster vehicle carefully recreates details from the original film version, including custom bodywork and graphics.

Designed to Feel Like a Real Street Race

One of the most interesting parts of the reveal is how seriously Universal appears to be taking the experience of actually sitting inside the vehicles. Corfino explained that the team understood fans would instantly notice if the cars felt inaccurate or overly simplified.

“No other ride vehicles are going to be scrutinized like these,” he explained, highlighting the pressure involved in adapting some of cinema’s most famous modified cars into functioning roller coaster trains.

That attention to detail can reportedly be seen throughout the attraction vehicles. Universal’s designers studied everything from body shapes and wheel styles to paint finishes, interior details and visual proportions. The goal was not just to create something inspired by the films, but to create ride vehicles that genuinely feel like they belong within the Fast & Furious universe.

Of course, practical ride requirements meant some compromises were necessary. The coaster vehicles feature open roofs and redesigned seating arrangements capable of accommodating four riders safely. Even with those changes, Universal says authenticity remained a priority throughout development.

The attraction itself is also expected to push the boundaries of what guests normally expect from a Universal coaster. Rather than traditional forward-facing ride vehicles, Hollywood Drift will feature rotating cars capable of spinning independently during the ride experience.

The spinning motion is intended to simulate the feeling of drifting through corners at high speed - a fitting concept for a franchise built around street racing culture.

Construction on the attraction has already become highly visible around Universal Studios Hollywood, with large sections of track weaving around escalators and existing park infrastructure. The coaster’s unusual placement has made it one of the most talked-about projects currently under construction in the theme park industry.

A Major Addition for Universal Studios Hollywood

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift represents another major step in Universal’s continued push towards larger thrill attractions. In recent years, the resort has increasingly expanded beyond traditional studio attractions and motion simulators with experiences designed to compete more directly with destination thrill parks.

The coaster is expected to reach speeds of up to 72mph while delivering a mixture of launches, rotating movements and high-speed turns across more than 4,000 feet of track.

For many fans, one of the most exciting aspects of the project is simply seeing Fast & Furious finally receive a large-scale attraction worthy of the franchise’s popularity. While previous Fast & Furious attractions at Universal parks have received mixed reactions, Hollywood Drift already appears to be generating significantly more excitement among enthusiasts.

The combination of an original coaster system, highly themed vehicles and the visual spectacle of the track itself has helped the attraction quickly become one of the most anticipated roller coasters currently in development.

Get Ready to Drift Into the Action

As construction continues towards the attraction’s 2026 debut, anticipation around Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift only seems to be increasing. The newly revealed ride vehicles have given fans their clearest indication yet of the level of detail and authenticity Universal is aiming for.

For longtime Fast & Furious fans, the opportunity to board replicas of some of the franchise’s most iconic cars is likely to become a major highlight of the experience itself. Whether guests find themselves riding in Dom’s Charger, Han’s RX-7 or Brian’s legendary Supra, Universal appears determined to make every vehicle feel instantly recognisable.

If the final attraction delivers on the promise shown by these vehicle reveals, Hollywood Drift could quickly become one of the standout roller coasters not only at Universal Studios Hollywood, but across the entire Universal portfolio.
